Skylark-30 — Agricultural & Forestry Surveillance UAV

Fixed-wing catapult-launched surveillance UAV: Eppler E214 aerofoil selection, OpenVSP/VSPAERO aerodynamics, MATLAB longitudinal stability and V-n envelope, and Fusion 360 FEA of the CFRP wing.

Year: 2026Category: Aerospace

Project Overview

King's College London 7CCEMAIR aircraft design portfolio. The Skylark-30 is a 1.14 kg fixed-wing UAV for agricultural and forestry surveillance, catapult-launched and belly-landing for runway-free operation from remote farmland. The study covers aerofoil selection (Eppler E214 at low Reynolds number), 2D-vs-3D wing aerodynamics in Flow5 and VSPAERO, component mass and CG build-up to 25% MAC, longitudinal dynamic stability (short-period and phugoid modes with MIL-F-8785C and V-n envelope) computed in MATLAB, and a Fusion 360 static-stress FEA of the CFRP spar-and-rib wing under the 5.7 g catapult load case.
